Nowadays there is a high level of poverty. As every problem poverty has its root causes. I totally agree that the one of them is illiteracy. Moreover poverty and low literacy form a cycle that is difficult to break. If you do not have enough money you have less opportunity to become educated, if you do not have education, you have less opportunity to become rich and successful.
To begin with, eradication of poverty is expected from the development of economic. Although we can observe that in developing countries the level of economy arises but there is still high gab between the rich and the poor. Illiteracy restricts people’s ability to access the necessary information. According to the level of literacy we form the rates in society and illiteral people place the lower branches of this hierarchy.
It follows from this that, education plays an important role in attacking poverty and enhancing the quality of life. The poor have very little knowledge about various essential elements like health, nutrition, credit and saving, use of new technology for agriculture, animal husbandry, legal rights.
In addition inequalities in literacy contribute to inequalities in income, occupational status and access to certain labor markets. People with lower literacy are twice as likely to be unemployed as other adults. They are also many times more likely to receive social assistance. If they do have jobs, these jobs are likely to be the lowest-paid, most insecure and least attractive. The better paying, secure jobs that used to exist for undereducated people are rapidly disappearing.
The task of government is to give as many opportunities as possible to provide the access to education and necessary resources. Modern society requires literacy. Obtaining a decent level of education massively increases your chances of avoiding poverty.
