Our parents remember the times when different board games have become very popular. But there was a special game, which overthrew the whole imagination about classic board games.

Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) became one of the most popular role game and people of all ages started to play the game with great interest. All began in 1974 when two smart guys Gary Gygax and Dave Arnenson create the first role board game and it was published by Tactical Studies Rules. From that time there were different versions of rules of the game. The last one has been published in 2008. Nowadays a lot of people can enjoy the time playing such kind of stuff. But why it became so popular among children and grownups?

First of all it’s a new game style. The popularity of role game increased dramatically. And even now we see the results: many people all around the world play RPG, more often in the internet. Everyone wants to feel like a medieval hero with special abilities fighting against his enemies. Moreover you make your destiny in your own. Someone (let’s call him game master or GM) create a virtual universe with different kinds of quests which player should do during the game. It is very interesting because no one knows exactly what will happen. The players can create their own unique character. And after that the game will start.

The second feature which makes the game more attractive is live communication. Despite of the fact that the game was created at the times when there was no computer and the internet, this gives the game a big plus in times when all totally forget about any board game and the word “game” always associates with cyber universe. Commonly, amount of the players varies from 3 to 6. They speak with each other during the game, do quests together and simply have a lot of fun.

As I said above the player can create a unique character. There are 7 main races and 4 additional. Also there are 11 classes. So it’s all your choice which way you follow: you can be a noble human mage, who defeats his enemies with spells or a wild dwarf warrior who can kill zombies with his great sword. You can even be a monk, who uses only his fists and his mind to fight with monsters. And of course this list is not finished. The game has one more thing: you should choose an alignment when you create your character. Some classes require a particular alignment to raise the level of the character.

Nevertheless D&D will be one of the most popular board games in the world. It connected a lot of people together and they just enjoy the game. D&D has won the hearts of the players forever.
