Nowadays February 14 is well-known as St.Valentine's Day, the Day for sweethearts. But many years ago February 14 was the Day of Goddess of women and family. The story of one day has changed the understanding of love from pagan's point of view and shown real love that was inspired by God.
It was February 14 269. That time people of Roman Empire prepared for holiday while the Christian priest Valentine prepared for execution in one of Roman prisons. There are different versions of the reason of his execution but sense is the same – he suffered for love. His life proved the power of this feeling. Love always stays a winner. The rules of emperor Yuliy Klavdiy II couldn't stop this feeling. He cared about soldiers and quality of army so much. He was afraid that love would spoil their courage. Priest Valentine helped people in love to express their feeling by the help of short notes. He blessed marriages in spite of a ban. He knew that love is the beginning of everything, that love gives life. The priest has found real truth of life in Christianity and he was servant of God. His admiration was nature. He studied the abilities of the natural medicine. He was a healer who believed in a healing power of God. The priest healed the jailer’s daughter that was blind. This family followed the truth that Valentine sermonized as many people that time. Only God can do miracles. And God is Love. The priest Valentine was sentence to death because of giving marriage or sermonizing the Christianity. We don’t know exact reason but he was judged for love. This feeling was firing in his soul and made warm the souls of other people. In his last moments of life he was sitting in his cell and writing the note for his honey, the jailer’s daughter that he has healed. They couldn’t be together because he was promised to God. The Roman jailer came to visit the priest before death. He promised to continue the mission of Valentine to bring the truth of Christianity to people. These last minutes of Valentine's life were full of happiness as he was sure that the love he sermonized the whole his life would be serve to God and people. The last his asking was to pass short note to girl he loved. This farewell message had romantic content.
“ My sweetheart, I couldn't become your husband and father of your children. But you were the only one with whom I wanted to relive all this. Don't cry for me. Your eyes just began to see the world. So enjoy the life. Remember I will be also with you, as my soul is undying the same as yours. “ The drop of ink fall to the paper and painted the shape of heart. The signature was “Your Valentine”, that became the synonyms of lover.
From this day , the day of death of the priest Valentine , the meaning of the February 14 has changed. We remember about the father of those that love and are in love. We look for love in our hearts because love never finish, because love overcomes all obstacles, love gives a push, love rules the world. The priest Valentine knew the source of love , God. This love motivated him to help people, to heal them, to bless their marriages. The pick of love is when two people fall in love. But love starts from those who surrender us.
