Advantages and disadvantages of television

Television is one of the newest of mass media. Now almost every family has a TV set. Obviously, television has both advantages and disadvantages.

On the one hand television, it is often said, keeps one informed about current events, allows one to follow the latest developments in science and politics, and offers an endless series of programmes which are both instructive and stimulating. The most distant countries and the strangest customs are brought right into one’s sitting-room. I must mention that there are many good films on TV.

Cinema tickets are expensive, but you can see the best Russian and foreign films at home for free. I think, it is very convenient. Now we have many channels on TV. I think it is great.

But we must consider the disadvantages of TV. First of all, if you watch TV too much, it can ruin your eye-sight and make you stupid.
We should not believe all that we see on TV. For example, there are sales on TV where you can buy rubbish for a lot of money.

Another great disadvantage of TV is commercials. They are really stupid and boring. I must also say that some people are TV addicts. They watch, they do not live. They do not go in for sports, they do not spend time with their friends.

Television now plays such an important part in so many people’s lives that it is essential for us to decide whether it is a blessing or a curse
