Environmental Problems

Since time immemorial the human thought that the world around him was almost an everlasting source of prosperity. Even in ancient times people were fully exploiting the natural resources. But during the Industrial Revolution that occurred in the 18th century the level of exploitation of the Earth has reached the extremely dangerous point.

One of the most urgent environmental issues is air pollution. The traffic fumes result in the acid rain which affects both the nature and people’s health. Moreover, a lot of aerosols contain CFCs – the material harmful to the ozone layer. The so-called “ozone holes” put the life on the Earth in danger, as the ozone layer protects the planet from extremely harmful ultraviolet light.

Unfortunately, this is far from being a whole story. There are numerous other problems that demand immediate solutions.
For instance, toxic waste from chemical plants and factories poisons the water because of the dumping. This contaminates water and results in fish kill, which has terrible effect on the biosphere.

Besides, deforestation takes a nasty turn. Vast green territories are turning into deserts; a great number of animals are forced to leave their homes, which leads to the extinction of some rare species. Furthermore, the frightening statistic shows that the activity of the poachers reduces the populations of animals considerably. The man’s interference in nature in disregard with its laws breaks the natural balance. Unless we alter their approach to the planet they live on, people will be under the risk of total destruction of the planet and themselves.

Hopefully, nowadays people begin to realize what a devastating impact their activity has on our planet. They start to value the environment. Strict measures are adopted in many countries to reduce the scale of pollution. We certainly need to change the attitude of the whole humanity from being the Masters of Nature to considering oneself as one of the millions of living creatures, which came to this planet as the child of nature, and not its enslaver.
